How to use a QR code to get tipped in person and offline
Not every fan finds you online. People meet you at shows, markets, talks and meetups, and a QR code lets them support you in the moment, from their phone, without typing a link.
Where a tipping QR code works well
- Live shows, gigs, and performances: on a poster, a stand or the stage screen.
- Events and talks: on your final slide, so the audience can scan before they leave.
- Merch and print: stickers, flyers, business cards, zines and packaging.
- Video and streams: on screen at the end of a video, or in your stream layout.
Design one that still scans
SendKudos includes a QR code studio, where you choose colours, module shape and a logo or initials badge, start from a preset, and download the result. A few rules keep it reliable:
- Keep strong contrast between the code and its background. Dark on light is the safest.
- Do not make the logo too big, because it hides part of the code.
- Leave empty space (the quiet zone) around the code.
- Test with at least two different phones before you print.
Pick the right size and format
Download a PNG for social posts and slides, a larger PNG for posters, or an SVG for large print, since SVG stays sharp at any size. The studio can also lay out a printable poster for you.
Tell people why to scan
A code on its own is easy to ignore. Put a short line beside it, such as "Enjoyed the show? Scan to say thanks". People scan when they know what happens next.
